Dream Artist to Be Featured at La Jolla Gallery Show June 7-11

June 6th, 2008

A six-artist show in La Jolla, CA, will feature Linda Herzog, who has been named one of the top 100 fantasy artists in the world. She “paints her dreams, so what you see on the canvas is a dream interpretation.”

The show will be presented by the Hallmark Fine Art Gallery in La Jolla opens with a meet-and-mingle reception on Saturday, June 7 from 6 to 9 p.m., and runs through June 11.

The featured artists include William DeBilzan, Linda Herzog, Jack Storms, Tom Marosz, Edgar Lamas and Pat Bailey.

“We’ve very eclectic,” said gallery director Michael Hajdaj. “You can see that from the list of artists we’re going to have. We also have art that has some thought behind it.”

The talent on display is comprised of three painters, two glass artists and a contemporary metal artist. More than 40 new pieces will be featured in the show.

The concept behind “Six Exceptional Artists - One Show” is similar to “one night stand” art shows held by college students.

“We’re letting you get the most out of your experience in one space,” Hajdaj said. “Every artist is here for you to approach. You can come in and have an experience … with six dynamic looks.”

Xanadu: An Online Group for Dreamers and Poets

March 28th, 2008

“Xanadu is a group for dreamers and poets, who would like to work to bring the two together. Do you like to let your dreams inspire your poetry, or let your poetry unfold and illuminate your dreams? Do you feel that dreams and poetry come from the same inner place, share a world of metaphor and magic? If so, this may be the place for you!”

One example of dream-inspired poetry provided by Barbara, the group owner, is:

In 1798, Samuel Taylor Coleridge started his now famous poem, Kubla Khan, thus:

“In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.”

What many may not realize is that Coleridge’s famous poem was inspired by a dream! Sadly, the poem remains unfinished, as he was interrupted in trying to get the words down, and as anyone knows who doesn’t write a dream down right away, they often disappear moments after awakening.

If you keep a dream journal, you might want to check out the free pictograms of dream symbols that can be used as visual indicators in your written descriptions. Visuals can make it easier to see key dream symbols and themes at a glance, but also could even help stimulate your subconscious mind during your dream interpretation process.

The description reads, “Searches for words matching over 100 categories. Shows an icon for each match. There are about 2500 words that can be matched.”

To download the symbols, visit http://kitchen-sync.com/bag/pictograms.html.
